Research Paper
Overall it is important for everyone to develop good social skills when they’re young, deaf or not. The reason for this is because children are like sponges, they absorb everything to tell or teach them. Teaching them important things while their brain is still developing will help it stick with them later on in life.
Some ways to accommodate DHH students is to mandate that schools have a sign language class for all students. This way both the hearing and DHH have a bridge where they meet half way. This allows DHH students to become more sociable with their hearing peers. This forces hearing students to step out there comfort zone and learn something different and it takes some of the pressure off of the DHH students to use their oral communication as much. Again social skills are important to have because they are the base of making relationships in life and it is how people learn to communicate with one another.
I chose this part of my paper because I think it’s important for deaf students to have hearing students and vice versa. It’s not fair for the DHH students to work twice as hard to fit into our society. It would be good for hearing students to learn sign language because it also stimulates certain parts of the brain.
