Dear Mrs. Boutilier;
For my capstone I’m going to learn to sign and teach what I know to the kindergarten children over at R.J. Kinsella. Magnet School. I will be going over there every Monday and Wednesday. I will be using books and online resources; this will take place at my house and my aunts because she said she would help me. I will take every opportunity possible to practice and develop my skills. I chose this for my capstone because I find it very fascinating to know another language that doesn’t involve speaking. Along with learning to sign I’m going to make a PowerPoint about deaf discrimination. I will go around Sport & Medical Sciences Academy and discuss with the teachers if I could present my PowerPoint to their class so I can raise awareness. The teachers I will be going to, to present my PowerPoint is Mrs. Goudreault, Mrs. Svoboda, Mr. Rivera, and Mr. Rodriguez.
My research question is why is it important for children with hearing loss to develop good social skills when they are young? The purpose of my research question is to put out awareness and educate others as to why it's important to have your DHH child to develop good social skills.
My mentor is Mrs. Beth Michelson and she is qualified to be my mentor because she is a speech pathologist and works with children. Her contact information is [email protected]g. My learning stretch is that I’m learning a new language, going into depth about something new and sharing it with other and I’m learning to work with young children.
Sincerely,
Brianna Saunders
